About Ohana
In 2019, my best friend Jon was diagnosed with a rare, terminal form of cancer. While the odds of survival were daunting, Jon didn’t let his fight stop him from living each day as if it was a gift. He embodied Ohana by always supporting anyone around him whether he’d known you his entire life or if he’d only met you once.
When Jon passed in 2021, I faced a level of grief I’d never known before. In dealing with the loss of Jon, I realized I could honor his legacy of love and positivity by creating a way for people to come together in a safe environment to find connection during some of the darkest moments in their lives. With that in mind, Ohana Together was formed
In Hawaiian, Ohana means family. It refers to one’s support system and goes far beyond sharing the same DNA. Family can be chosen and is a community that's always there to support you. We are all in this life together. No matter how lonely you may feel at times, you always have people who care about you and are there for you. This is exactly what we’re working to build: a support system that provides a place for people to open up about their hardships. We want to expand a platform for those to connect with others who are undergoing similar/shared experiences. In short, Ohana Together is a place for the goodness in humanity to shine.
